What NOT to do

Don't take aspirin if bleeding (it thins the blood).

Don't touch the root of a knocked-out tooth.

Don't apply heat to swelling.

Don't attempt to glue a tooth back with glue.

Don't ignore persistent pain.

Don't put aspirin directly on the gum.

Retrieve the tooth

Hold the tooth by the crown (the visible part), never by the root.

Rinse gently

Rinse the tooth under running water for 10 seconds maximum, without scrubbing.

Preserve the tooth

Replace the tooth in the socket if possible, or store it in milk or saliva.
