At Studio Smile in Chêne-Bougeries, our dentists specializing in dental aesthetics install ceramic veneers with natural and long-lasting results.
What is a dental veneer?
A veneer is a thin shell of ceramic or composite bonded to the visible side of the tooth. It covers defects and gives the tooth the desired appearance: shape, size, color, alignment.
The thickness of a facet varies from 0.3 to 0.7 mm. It is comparable to a contact lens. The tooth is lightly prepared (a thin enamel border is removed) to accommodate the veneer without excess thickness.
The veneers are placed on the visible teeth of the smile. In general, 6 to 10 teeth are treated for a harmonious smile (from canine to canine, or from first premolar to first premolar).
Types of facets
Ceramic (porcelain) veneers. This is the gold standard. Ceramic reproduces the translucency and natural texture of enamel. It resists coffee, tea and wine stains. Its lifespan is 10 to 20 years. This is the option we recommend at Studio Smile.
The two main materials are feldspar (the most aesthetic, ideal for anterior teeth) and lithium disilicate (more resistant, suitable for teeth subject to more stress).
Composite veneers. Composite is a resin modeled directly on the tooth. The result is immediate (only one session). The cost is lower. But the durability is less (3 to 7 years). Composite stains more easily and requires regular touch-ups.
Film veneers (no-prep). Ultrathin veneers (0.2-0.3 mm) placed without any tooth preparation. No enamel grinding. Reversible in theory. Suitable for specific cases: very small teeth, closure of diastemas, addition of volume. Not suitable for all cases.
What indications for veneers?
Veneers correct a wide range of cosmetic defects.
Stained or discolored teeth. When whitening is not enough. Tetracycline stains, fluorosis, devitalization, intrinsic staining.
Chipped or worn teeth. Restoration of original shape and length. Additional wear protection.
Slight misalignment. Veneers can “cheat” alignment without orthodontics. Teeth slightly rotated, overlapped or receding. For severe cases, prior orthodontic treatment is preferable.
Gaps between teeth (diastemas). Veneers fill gaps in a natural way.
Teeth that are too small or asymmetrical. Veneers harmonize the size and symmetry of the smile.
The installation process at Studio Smile
The installation of ceramic veneers takes place in three stages, over two to three appointments spread over two to three weeks.
Step 1: Consultation and planning. Clinical examination, photos, digital impressions. Smile analysis: smile line, face shape, desired color. A mockup (simulation) is carried out to visualize the result before starting. The detailed quote is provided.
Step 2: Preparation and impression. The teeth are lightly prepared (0.3 to 0.7 mm of enamel removed). A high-precision digital impression is sent to the prosthesis laboratory. Temporary veneers are placed during manufacturing.
Step 3: Final bonding. The ceramic veneers arrive from the laboratory. They are tested, adjusted if necessary, then glued with a specific resin cement. A final polish ensures an impeccable result. The result is immediately visible.

Lifespan and maintenance
Ceramic veneers last on average 10 to 20 years. Some exceed 25 years with rigorous maintenance. Composite veneers last 3 to 7 years.
To maximize the life of your veneers:
- Brush your teeth twice a day with a non-abrasive toothpaste
- Floss daily
- Wear a nighttime protection guard if you clench your teeth (bruxism)
- Avoid biting on hard objects (fingernails, pens, ice cubes)
- Have professional scaling and polishing every six months
- See your dentist immediately if a veneer becomes loose or cracked
The limits of facets
Veneers are not the solution to everything. It is important to know their limits.
Veneers do not strengthen a very weakened tooth. A crown is more suitable in this case. Veneers do not correct severe malocclusion. Prior orthodontic treatment may be necessary. Veneers require irreversible enamel preparation (except no-prep veneers). It is a definitive commitment.
Bruxism (teeth grinding) increases the risk of facet fractures. A nighttime protection gutter is essential in this case.
At Studio Smile, we carefully evaluate each faceted application. If another solution is more suitable, we will tell you.
FAQ
How much do dental veneers cost in Geneva? Between 400 and 1,800 CHF per tooth depending on the material. Ceramic veneers cost between 1,000 and 1,800 CHF per tooth. For a complete smile (8-10 teeth), count between 8,000 and 18,000 CHF. At Studio Smile, financing in 24 monthly installments free of charge is available.
Are veneers painful? No. Tooth preparation is done under local anesthesia. No pain during treatment. Slight sensitivity may occur in the days following preparation while wearing the temporary veneers. It disappears quickly.
Do veneers look natural? Yes, when they are done well. Ceramic veneers mimic the translucency, texture and color of natural teeth. At Studio Smile, our prosthetists use layering techniques that reproduce the nuances of natural enamel. The result is undetectable.
Are veneers reimbursed by insurance? No. Veneers are considered an aesthetic treatment. Neither LAMal nor additional insurance reimburses them, except in exceptional cases (reconstruction after accident).
Can dental veneers be removed? Classic veneers involve irreversible preparation of the enamel. You can’t just remove them and get the original tooth back. They must be replaced when they reach the end of their life. No-prep veneers are theoretically reversible, but in practice a return to the initial state is not guaranteed.
